Training & Equipping

Discover the Foundations of Educational Chaplaincy Course and explore what it means to offer a meaningful, relational presence within education.

Through engaging videos, case studies, reflection and further reading, this course will introduce you to the theology and principles that underpin chaplaincy, explore different models of practice, and help you consider how chaplaincy can be lived out within your own educational setting.

Whether you are already involved in chaplaincy, exploring it for the first time, or looking to develop chaplaincy within your school, college or organisation, the course offers practical insight alongside opportunities to reflect, learn and make connections with your own context.

What some of our Chaplains say…

  • "The Foundations of Educational Chaplaincy Course, written and presented by Nigel Roberts, was a great starting point for thinking about the theologies and models of chaplaincy from a biblical perspective, and reflecting on where and what God requires of me. It gave space to explore the role of a chaplain and to question things such as whether a chaplain can also be a teacher, as well as the part a chaplain can play in supporting pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. It also helped us focus on the importance of listening skills and multifaith chaplaincy, as well as so much more! A really helpful starting point for exploring chaplaincy."

    Heidi, Primary School Chaplain

  • The Foundations of Educational Chaplaincy Course gave me a valuable insight into how the role of the chaplaincy fits within a school setting. It helped me understand not only the theological foundations of chaplaincy, but also how a chaplain can complement the work of teachers and school leaders, offering a listening presence and supporting the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of children. A really worthwhile course for anyone looking to understand how chaplaincy can enrich school life.”

How do I become a Mentor?

If that all still sounds great to you and something really worthwhile and wholesome then you’ll want to know what to do next. Our volunteer Mentors are looked after and trained by Anne, our dedicated Mentor Co-ordinator.  If you complete the online form (link below), she will contact you and start the process of getting you on board and mentoring.  This will involve a chat about the mentoring role and your suitability, as well as some safeguarding checks - as you would expect working with children.  After some training, sorting of logistics and introductions we can get you going with your first mentee.  Anne and the school’s chaplain will be there to help and support you on the way.
